WSU Visitors CenterBy Elizabeth McManus, Brelsford WSU Visitor Center

PULLMAN, Wash. – A free community safety fair will help children learn first-hand about “stop, drop and roll” and how firefighters put out a fire, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Brelsford WSU Visitor Center, 150 E. Spring St. in Pullman.

Families also will get a first-hand look at a police car and learn about environmental health and safety.

Free snacks and beverages, including Crimson FIRE! — one of nine cheese flavors produced by the WSU Creamery — will be available, along with the chance to win one of 10 prizes to be awarded periodically between 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The Pullman Fire Department will coordinate an array of hands-on fire safety activities. Firefighters will lead children and adults through an agility training course on the visitor center lawn that will include a cut-out house prop with “fire” in need of extinguishing with a hose.

Fire trucks, an ambulance, police vehicles and vehicle extrication tools will be on display. Interactive fire extinguisher and vehicle extrication demonstrations will rotate hourly, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

An emergency and safety resource fair featuring various WSU and Pullman agencies will occur inside the visitor center. Represented agencies include WSU Environmental Health and Safety, WSU Emergency Management, Whitcom, WSU Police Department, Pullman Police Department and Pullman Fire Department.

Families can sign up for child car seat inspections, and CPR demonstrations also will be offered.
