Jan. 28-29: Regents to hold regular meeting at WSU Vancouver

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Board of Regents of Washington State University will hold a regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 28 and 29 on the WSU Vancouver campus, Firstenburg Student Commons building, Rooms 101-103.

The WSU Regents will consider action items, including authorization to proceed with design and preconstruction of a planned Plant Sciences Building on the Pullman campus, approval of increases to WSU housing and dining rates for the 2016-2017 academic year, and the establishment of a Metropolitan Center for Applied Research and Extension at WSU North Puget Sound at Everett.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m., Jan. 28, with a meeting of the Regents’ Executive Committee, followed by consecutive meetings of the Regents’ Finance and Audit, Academic and Student Affairs, and External Affairs committees. Each committee session will convene immediately following the completion of the previous session. All four sessions are scheduled to conclude prior to 5 p.m.

The Regents will re-convene at the same location at 8 a.m., Jan. 29, to initially hear reports from various WSU officials and campus organizations, including the WSU Foundation, the WSU Faculty Senate, Associated Students of WSU Vancouver, Graduate and Professional Student Association and WSU Administrative Professional Advisory Council.

The Regents are expected to take action on recommendations including:

  • Authorization for the planned Plant Sciences Building – Research Education Complex Bldg. 5 on the Pullman campus – to proceed to design and pre-construction and the delegation of authority to the President or his designee enter into any and all contracts necessary to commence the design and preconstruction for the project, with costs not to exceed the budgeted amount of $6.6 million.
  • Approval of an increase in the Housing and Dining Rates for FY 2017 not to exceed 3.1% of the total weighted average for FY 2016 room and board rates for residence halls and 3% of the FY2016 total weighted average for apartments.
  • Approval of the establishment of the Metropolitan Center for Applied Research and Extension in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. The research and outreach center is to be housed at WSU North Puget Sound at Everett (NPSE). The Center’s core staff is already located at WSU North Puget Sound at Everett (NPSE) and WSU Seattle Offices, and will continue to work out of those locations. Project-based applied research and outreach activities would be funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service models.

In addition, on Thursday, January 28, the Regents will attend a reception held at 4:30 pm, Firstenburg Student Commons building, room 105, WSU Vancouver, Vancouver, WA.
