McNair Achievement Program applications available

PULLMAN, Wash. – 2015 applications for the McNair Achievement Program, a federally funded program which prepares first-generation students and students from underrepresented backgrounds in graduate education for graduate studies, will become available at Washington State University on January 23. Students may apply online at mcnair.wsu.edu/apply/.

WSU is among more than 152 colleges and universities that administer McNair programs to prepare undergraduates for future graduate studies through coursework, mentoring, and seminars on topics related to graduate school preparation. McNair students also complete a paid research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor, and have the opportunity to present their research at local, regional, and national conferences.

More than 50 of WSU scholars are currently attending graduate schools throughout the country, and 10 have recently earned their doctoral degrees.

To be eligible for the McNair Achievement Program a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, desire to pursue a PhD after college, and be a low-income or first-generation student or a member of an underrepresented group in graduate education. The program takes two years to complete.
