400 high school students visit to learn about higher ed

WashingtonCouncil-logo-250RICHLAND, Wash. – About 400 high school students will explore their options for higher education at the Washington Council’s free College Planning Day Friday, March 21, at Washington State University Tri-Cities.

The event will be 9 a.m.-noon at WSU Tri-Cities, 2710 Crimson Way, Richland, with a check-in station at the West Building entrance. Drop-ins are welcome.

Students will attend in-depth presentations from colleges and universities throughout Washington state. Teens and parents will get answers they need to make educated choices about the future. The day will include presentations on financial aid and the College Bound Scholarship.

Sophomores, juniors and undecided seniors from high schools in Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, Finley, Prescott and Wahluke – plus others in Adams, Grant and Yakima counties – were specifically invited to the event through their school counselors.

Sixteen higher education institutions are participating:

• Western Washington University in Bellingham

• WSU Pullman, WSU Vancouver and WSU Tri-Cities

• University of Washington (Seattle), UW Bothell and UW Tacoma

• Seattle Pacific University in Seattle

• Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma

• Heritage University in Toppenish

• Gonzaga University in Spokane

• Eastern Washington University in Cheney

• Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle

• Columbia Basin College in Pasco

• Central Washington University in Ellensburg

• Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake


College Planning Day is an annual, statewide event organized by the Washington Council for High School-College Relations, which has the mission to assist Washington students to successfully access and engage post-secondary opportunities (http://www.washingtoncouncil.org). The event is coordinated by the WSU Tri-Cities Office of Enrollment Management.
