Applications due Feb. 1 For RN to BSN program

LONGVIEW, Wash. – Applications are being accepted for a Lower Columbia College and Washington State University Vancouver pilot program for registered nurses seeking to earn a bachelor of science in nursing degree. The application deadline to enter in fall 2014 is Feb. 1.

Participants will complete coursework through online studies and may meet clinical requirements in local healthcare facilities. Pending approval by the state nursing commission, classes are scheduled to begin in August.

Eligible applicants include registered nurses who earned an associate of arts/direct transfer agreement degree from community colleges in Washington with a minimum cumulative grade point of 3.0. RNs who have not yet completed transfer degree requirements can work with an LCC advisor to identify courses needed prior to qualifying for the RN to BSN program.

In a community survey last year, the BSN was among the bachelor degree programs most in demand by area residents. In a survey of nurses at local healthcare facilities, more than 50 RNs expressed interest in having a local option to complete a BSN from WSU Vancouver.

The majority of the approximately 80 LCC nursing students scheduled to graduate this year plan to continue their education in nursing to advance their careers.

LCC and WSU Vancouver nursing programs have worked together for a year to develop a cohort program that meets industry standards while serving the needs of local RNs for a non-commuting option to advance their education.
