By Emma Epperly, Undergraduate Education

PULLMAN, Wash. – International development projects in Pakistan and Afghanistan – and their impacts on women – will be presented at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in CUE 203 as part of the Washington State University common reading.

The lecture will also be livestreamed (, and one WSU Global Campus student who participates in the chat box during the event will win a copy of this year’s common reading book “I am Malala.”

Speaker and WSU School of Food Science director Barbara Rasco has done international development work – including food safety training, industry technical assistance and small- and medium-enterprise development – with countries in eastern Europe, central Asia and north Africa. She evaluated market potential for agricultural crops and processed foods and helped countries develop legislation and regulations to comply with World Trade Organization and international standards.
