Claiborn honored for diversity, STEM efforts

ClaibornPULLMAN, Wash. – Candis Claiborn recently received the ADVANCE at WSU Recognition of Service and Leadership Award for her dedication to enhancing inclusiveness and making Washington State University a more faculty-friendly institution.

Claiborn, former dean of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, was a co-principal investigator of the ADVANCE NSF Institutional Transformation grant and a longtime ADVANCE at WSU steering committee member.

ADVANCE promotes policies and programs to support women faculty in STEM (science, engineering, technology, mathematics) disciplines and underrepresented minority faculty in all disciplines.

The newest program – External Mentor Pilot Extension – supports development of mentoring relationships for faculty with off-campus academic leaders. The deadline for WSU faculty proposals is Oct. 16. Learn more at
