Photos: Freshman wins hurdles at Pac-12 Championships

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University freshman CJ Allen was the upset winner in the men’s intermediate hurdles Sunday in the final day of the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships at Mooberry Track on the Pullman campus.

Allen-80Allen, from Allyn, Wash., ran a lifetime-best 400m hurdles time of 51.14 seconds. He had the top time in the prelims with 51.84 and held off a surge by runner-up Devon Allen, a freshman from Oregon, who ran a time of 51.19. WSU’s Daniel Zmuda finished eighth with a time of 55.04. The intermediate hurdles final featured five freshmen and three sophomores.

“Champion. That sounds perfect, that’s exactly what I have been working so hard for all year,” Allen said. “When you get to big meets, its (fast race) going to happen … coming in we are pretty much all freshmen, I think two sophomores in the bunch. To know those guys are going to be there for the next three years is just awesome.”
