The YWCA of WSU presents Judy Shepard as part of the annual Week Without Violence. At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, Judy Shepard will speak in the CUB Junior Ballroom. She is the mother of Matthew Shepard, a college student in Wyoming who was brutally attacked and murdered in a 1998 anti-gay hate crime.
Judy Shepard and her husband founded the Matthew Shepard Foundation after this tragic incident in order to advocate for gay and lesbian rights as well as hate crime prevention. In 2010, she wrote a memoir entitled The Meaning of Matthew: My Son’s Murder in Laramie, and a World Transformed. There will be a book sale and signing following her speech.
