Businesses learn to evaluate, build export markets

SPOKANE, Wash. – Washington business enterprises looking to generate sales to new markets will benefit from a workshop offered 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, by the Washington Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) at the Spokane Export Center, 1235 N Post, Suite 201.

The SBDC also will offer a two day seminar July 11 and 18. Tuition for the workshop can be credited toward the seminar. 
 
At the workshop, businesses will learn how to find and enter international markets with their products or services and how to become profitable exporters. They will discover the benefits of exporting and the assistance available. They will obtain tools to assess readiness and learn basic market research, market entry methods and the basics of an export plan.
 
Instructors are SBDC international trade specialists. The SBDC is a statewide organization with two export centers that focus on training and advising new-to-market and new-to-export companies interested in expanding their international sales or entering international markets.
 
Vern Jenkins is a certified global business professional and holds a masters of international management (MIM) degree from Whitworth University. He has more than 18 years of international business experience working in a number of countries, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India and Afghanistan. As CEO of Scentia, his clients included Reebok, Nike, Phillips Petroleum, Proctor & Gamble, Duracell China & Nokia China.
 
The program is hosted by the SBDC export centers and is funded in part by the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board through a grant.
