WSU eLearning site draws more than 10,000 visitors

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University’s eLearning site has had 13,367 visits from 10,375 people since it was launched six months ago as part of the Global Campus.

“Wow,” said Rebecca Van de Vord, associate director of the Global Campus, when told of the numbers. “It’s amazing we’ve had so many visitors, especially given the narrow target audience.”

The site, http://teach.wsu.edu, provides resources for online instructors, including a certification course, self-help tutorials, a tech blog and a media showcase. It also hosts WSU-specific resources, such as schedules for in-person and virtual training, as well as the WSU “One Stop Shop,” a compilation of other technology related resources.

“The need is very high for these kinds of resources,” Van de Vord said. “Most of what’s available has fees that can be prohibitive, especially in emerging economies. The WSU site offers a wealth of information from a wide range of sources, and all without cost.”

Most visits – 8,826 – came from Washington state, including 4,605 from Pullman. A total of 12,689 visits came from within the U.S. Other visits came from 125 countries, including 144 from India, 117 from Canada, 85 from the United Kingdom, 54 from the Philippines and 33 from Ghana. Worldwide, visitors looked at an average of 2.85 pages and stayed for an average of 2:07 minutes.

“The international figures show that WSU can improve online education across the globe,” Van de Vord said. “And that advances WSU’s overall objective of making the world a better place.”
