The Foley Institute, in collaboration with the WSU Department of History, International Programs, and the Asia Program presents a Public Lecture by the Japanese Consul General, followed by a public reception.
“Japan’s Cultural Policies: How to win the hearts of people overseas”
Consul General Kiyokazu Ota was born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1953. He graduated from Tokyo University, and entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977.
After studying in England, he has been posted overseas in the Netherlands, Zambia, and Austria. Subsequently, he has served in the capacities of Director of the Africa Division, Middle East and African Bureau, and as Minister in Japanese Embassies in Australia and Bangladesh.
He has also been the Deputy Director of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Centre of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency. Prior to his current position, General Consul Ota was Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of Japan in the Netherlands.
A public reception will follow Consul General Ota’s talk.
