Washington state inducts six into 4-H Hall of Fame

SEATTLE, Wash. – Six state residents were inducted Oct. 19 into the Washington state 4-H Hall of Fame for their leadership, commitment and impact on 4-H and their community.

Honored at the 2012 4-H Forum in Seattle were:

• Bob Brusewitz, Lake Stevens. Brusewitz has been a 4-H leader for 17 years and instrumental in bringing technology, robotics, rabbit and vet science projects to youth. Brusewitz mentored 4-H members in writing computer programs and building computers for themselves and community members. He also was pivotal in the success of the FIRST Robotics competition in which youth built and programmed a basketball-playing robot.
• Linda Conway, Monroe. Conway is a 30-year 4-H volunteer and has held numerous leadership positions including club leader, 4-H Council member and served 10 years as the Evergreen State Fair Equine Superintendent. As Horse Bowl coach she led many teams to state and national Horse Bowl competitions and also served as the state Horse Bowl senior moderator and Oral Reasons judge. Monroe currently is the assistant Horse Program leader in Snohomish County.
• Stan and Nancy Depner, Monroe. Depners have been involved with 4-H for more than 29 years with the Turkey Trotters 4-H Club and the Sky Valley 4-H Club. Together they have been instrumental in running the 4-H Poultry Barn and host the county’s annual Duck Day featuring 4-H waterfowl. The Depners also have been active on the 4-H Council and served on the Grant and 4-H Forum committees. In addition, they have served as Special Olympics coaches for more than 25 years.
• Floy Ziegler, Burien. Ziegler became a club leader in King County 13 years ago and has been instrumental in educating hundreds of youth. She leads three active clubs engaged in service and leadership. Ziegler has served at the county level as fair superintendent, association president and on the Strategic Planning Committee. She has also taken active roles on the State 4-H Advisory Board, Volunteer Development Action Team, chair of the Western Regional Leader’s Forum and 2012 State Forum chair.
• Dr. O.L. Montgomery (deceased), Kent. Montgomery led the Lucky Shamrocks 4-H Club, was a member of the King County Fair Board in the 1940’s and later served as its Chairman for many years. He also served on the Kent School Board from 1953 – 1972. Dr. Montgomery also worked as an Assistant State Veterinarian and was later appointed State Veterinarian by Governor Albert Rossellini.
