Dr. Eric Grimsrud, emeritus professor of chemistry at Montana State University, will be visiting WSU to give a lecture titled “A Consensus Scientific View of Past, Present and Future Climates.” It will be on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Honors Hall.
The lecture will be hosted by WSU Honors Student Advisory Council and WSU Center for Environmental Research, Education and Outreach.
Dr. Grimsrud will describe the basics of climate science, apply this knowledge to interpret historical climate data, offer hypotheses about what the future climate may look like and describe initiatives that may shape our future. A discussion will follow the presentation.
Abstract:
“In this presentation, the three basic forces that determine the average temperature of the Earth will first be described. Then the climates of various periods during the past 65 million years with an emphasis on the last 150 years will be assessed in terms of these forces. Armed with the information thereby obtained, speculations concerning the next 100 years and the next 10,000 will also be offered. Our choices for avoiding potential detrimental outcomes of future climate change will then be discussed.”
