VANCOUVER, Wash. The Engineering and Computer Science Building at Washington State University Vancouver has been designated LEED Gold for its use of durable composite and recyclable materials and its use of natural light.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consists of a suite of rating systems for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods.
The $43.5 million, four-story, 56,000-square-foot building opened for classes in spring 2012. It recently was dedicated to the people of Washington and the students of WSU.
WSU President Elson S. Floyd discussed the importance of science, technology, engineering and math education to the state and nation: “Preparing our students in the STEM disciplines will help the U.S. economy regain its competitive edge.”
The building is home to the School of Engineering and Computer Science and the electrical and mechanical engineering programs.
