Weekly training
sessions offered WSU Scholars weekly training sessions will be offered by the Office of Grant and Research Development (OGRD) at 1:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Oct. 4, in Neill Hall 416. November sessions will be announced.

PULLMAN, Wash. Researchers will forge productive collaborations and along with administrators and the public find experts in many disciplines at Washington State University thanks to a new open-access tool, WSU Scholars.
From the WSU Scholars home page, a search done by concept lets faculty identify collaborators by areas of mutual interest and helps anyone find a WSU researcher with expertise in specified areas. Researcher last names and free text from journal abstracts, book chapters, funding announcements, etc., also can be searched.
WSU Scholars will help research managers find faculty whose work fits funding and sponsor opportunities. It will help administrators understand network connections within a department and facilitate collaboration.
Experts and potential collaborators at other institutions can be found via the SciVal Experts Community and the DIRECT2experts network. Both are accessed from the left-side navigation bar on the WSU Scholars home page.
Beta tests with faculty, staff and administrators – conducted by WSU’s Office of Grant and Research Development – have indicated that WSU Scholars is an important asset for finding experts and promoting collaboration.
WSU Scholars scans and analyzes every publication in Scopus the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality Web sources. Powered by the Elsevier Fingerprint Engine, WSU Scholars creates “fingerprints” of researchers’ expertise, showing connections among people, publications, funding opportunities and ideas.
In addition, researchers can enter data themselves to paint a more comprehensive picture of their distinctive expertise. Researcher profiles are automatically updated once a week and manually reviewed quarterly by SciVal.
