PULLMAN, Wash. – Samuel H. Smith, former president of Washington State University, will discuss the Greater Good Campaign, which seeks to gain government support for higher education, at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, in CADD 21. A reception will follow the free, public talk at noon in the CADD atrium.
Smith will discuss with students and community members his role in developing and implementing the Greater Good Campaign, which has been spearheaded by The Seattle Times in collaboration with five co-sponsoring organizations.
Smith served as WSU’s President 1985-2000. Under his leadership, WSU grew in size and stature. He is perhaps most recognized in the state for establishing the university’s existing regional campuses in Spokane, the Tri-Cities and Vancouver.
Recognized nationally for his leadership in distance education, Smith serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Western Governors University and Western Governors University Washington, both of which he helped to found.
The Washington state legislature is in a special session called by Gov. Chris Gregoire for the purpose of finalizing the state’s budget.
