PULLMAN, Wash. – V-Day WSU will honor influential Washington State University women, including Carmento Floyd, wife of WSU President Elson S. Floyd, at its 10th anniversary celebration noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, in the Holland and Terrell Library atrium.
V-Day WSU is a registered student organization working to end gender violence.
The ceremony is held to honor women whose character and strength make them role models in the community and to raise awareness of the group’s mission and accomplishments.
Other WSU honorees will include Melynda Huskey, assistant vice president/dean of students; Felicia Gaskins, associate vice provost of equity and diversity, and Heidi Stanton, director of the Gender Identity/Expression and Sexual Orientation Resource Center. Other administrators, faculty, staff and community members also will be recognized.
The women will receive commemorative V-Day pins.
Since V-Day WSU was established 10 years ago, members have raised thousands of dollars for local and global groups, such as Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse and the women and girls of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. V-Day WSU is known for its annual benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues,” which will be Feb. 9-11, and for the “Until the Violence Stops Festival,” which was in November.
V-Day WSU encourages anyone interested in getting involved with the group to attend meetings 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays in CUE 202 or to check out the Facebook page.
