PULLMAN, Wash. Two compositions by Washington State University graduate student Ted King-Smith have been selected for performance in upcoming concerts. He studies composition with Ryan Hare and saxophone with Greg Yasinitsky in the WSU School of Music.
King-Smith’s saxophone quartet, “Echoes,” will be performed by the Saxophilia saxophone quartet at the College Music Society Pacific Northwest Chapter Conference in March. The call for scores was open to the chapter.
“Echoes” previously was recorded by the WSU saxophone quartet, which included saxophonists from the School of Music.
King-Smith’s orchestra piece, “Blacktop Mirage,” was chosen as the Washington-Idaho Symphony’s 2011-2012 Young Artists Competition winner in composition. It will be performed by the symphony Jan. 28 at Gladish Auditorium in Pullman and Jan. 29 at Clarkston High School.
The competition is open to performers and composers ages 14-30 who reside in and/or attend an institution in Washington, Idaho or Oregon.
