PULLMAN, Wash. – An oral history of the career of William D. Ruckelshaus, the first and fifth administrator of the federal Environmental Protection Agency whose career parallels the growth of the environmental movement in the United States, is available in three locations in the state of Washington.
Douglas Brinkley, a noted historian who has written several books on U.S. environmental history, conducted more than seven hours of interviews with Ruckelshaus in 2011.
The oral history is available through the special collections branch of libraries at Washington State University and the University of Washington. It is also available online in the archives of TVW, a nonprofit public affairs television network.
WSU and UW collaborate in the William D. Ruckelshaus Center; its mission is to act as a neutral resource for collaborative problem solving in Washington and the Pacific Northwest. It has offices in Pullman, Seattle and Olympia.
