PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Brass Quintet has rescheduled its first concert due to inclement weather and the suspension of campus operations Jan. 19. The free, on-campus event will now be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in Bryan Hall Theatre.
The quintet has toured Washington high schools, presented master classes and played for community concert programs and is eager to share its music with the WSU community.
The program will feature standard pieces from the brass quintet repertoire from the Renaissance to the 20th century. The first half will include major works like the “Scherzo” by John Cheetham and “Contrapunctus IX” by J. S. Bach. The second half will conclude with one of the pillars in the repertoire, Victor Ewald’s “Quintet No. 3,” a four-movement work noted for its idiomatic brass writing, sonorous melodies, expressive harmonies and sophisticated musical nuances.
