RICHLAND, Wash. – G.I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has awarded Washington State University Tri-Cities the designation of Military Friendly School. The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students.
WSU Tri-Cities is included in the list of 1,518 colleges, universities and trade schools that have prioritized the recruitment and retention of student veterans. Veterans make up 10 percent of the student population, and the campus is committed to promoting a welcoming environment that meaningfully acknowledges their contributions and encourages their transition into educational and civilian life, said Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein.
WSU Tri-Cities stands out from many other schools on the Military Friendly Schools list for its inclusion in the community and its close collaboration with the many veterans’ agencies in the mid-Columbia region, she said.
“We hold our student veterans in high regard and we are excited and honored to have this recognition,” said Carwein.
