Religious liberty and regulation discussed

“When Does Government Regulation Threaten Religious Liberty?” will be the topic of a talk at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in Smith CUE 518, part of the Foley Institute Coffee & Politics series.
Professor Anthony Gill, University of Washington, will discuss regulations imposed by state and local governments that limit activities and property expansion by religious groups. He will consider when such regulations pose a threat to religious liberty as enumerated in the First Amendment.

Gill specializes in Latin American politics with an emphasis on church-state relations and political economy.

His interests also relate to methodological and analytical issues surrounding comparative political analysis, including statistics, rational choice and game theory. He is studying the causes and consequences of government regulation of religious organizations.
