Crimson, not purple, marks Cougar Country

In January 2003, Cheryl Druffel, finance budget coordinator for the College of Veterinary Medicine Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology, interviewed for a job in WSU Alumni Relations. After going through the regular interviews with staff, she was asked to return for a second interview with director Keith Lincoln.
“Keith hired me the next day, but later he told me that he almost didn’t hire me because during my interview I wore a purple suit. I should have known better, but fashion – not Cougars or Huskies – was what I was thinking at the time,” she said.

The lesson learned, she said: “When interviewing for a job at WSU, especially the unit that represents alumni, always wear school colors or at least not rival colors. This is Cougar Country!”

Countdown for the Dec. 4 Apple Cup football game in Martin Stadium between the University of Washington – purple and gold – and the WSU Cougars – crimson and gray – has started.
As a lead up to cheering on the Cougs in the game, please use the “new comment” feature below to share your personal story about why “purple is not a Cougar Country color” and/or why crimson and gray are your colors.

If you have a photo – showing you bedecked in crimson and gray – please send it to timarsh@wsu.edu. A SoundSlide featuring submitted photos will be produced and posted in a week or so.

Speaking of Apple Cup, while the game is in Pullman, there’s an admission discount for Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo Nov. 25-Dec. 5 for anyone wearing WSU or UW gear or showing a valid student ID. For more information, click here.
