Cable 8 Sportscast Wins Top Three Honors at National College Media Convention

PULLMAN, Wash.— “Inside the Lines,” a Washington State University’s Cable 8 Productions program, was chosen as a 2010 College Broadcasters Inc. Student Production Award finalist at a recent national media convention.  The winning sportscast included coverage of the spring 2010 PAC 10 championship game in Los Angeles.   With over 400 internationals entries, Cable 8 Productions’ piece placed in the top three.

Representatives of Cable 8 Productions received the award at the National College Media Convention in Louisville, Kentucky Oct. 29.  The convention attracted 2,300 student journalists, broadcasters and educators from around the world.

Broadcast senior Gavin Harris the producer of “Inside the Lines”.  Devon Bowman is director of the production.

“I’m thrilled that they recognized our work,” Gavin Harris said. “This is the beginning of what I hope is a career in sports production. My name is out there. It’s a great start.”

“To to be selected as a finalist from over 400 entries throughout the world speaks very highly of the show’s production quality,” Cable 8’s CFO and personnel manager, Raquel Marcelo said.

“A lot of work from the producers, directors, crew and on-air talent went into this production. Being selected as a finalist gives us extra motivation and encouragement for future shows,” Marcelo said.

Cable 8 Productions is the student-run television service of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. It has served Palouse communities since 1986.
