Several WSU employees have reported receiving fraudulent e-mails regarding their WSU e-mail. There are two new reported phishing e-mails circulating on campuses.
The first one has a subject line “Validate” with the following text in the body of the e-mail: “Your Mailbox Has Exceeded It Storage Limit As Set By Your Administrator, And You Will Not Be Able To Receive New Mails Until You Re-Validate It. To Re-Validate [Omitted Link] System Administrator.”
The second phishing e-mail has a subject line “Your mailbox is almost full” with the following text in the body of the e-mail: “Your mailbox is almost full. 20GB 23GB
Your mailbox has exceeded the storage limit which is 20GB as set by your administrator, you are currently running on 20.9GB, you may not be able to send or receive new mail until you re-validate your mailbox. To re-validate your mailbox please: CLICKHERE” [Omitted Link] Thanks System Administrator.”
Both e-mails are fraudulent phishing attempts to gain access to your WSU e-mail account. If you receive such an e-mail, don’t open it or click on the link; just delete it.
If you did not click on either link, your account is fine and there’s nothing more you need to do.
If you did click on either link, please contact your local IT support staff or the ITS Help Desk at 335-4357 or helpdesk@wsu.edu.
For your protection Information Technology Services recommends that you never respond to requests for personal information that may be contained in any suspicious e-mail. It is best to assume any e-mail that asks for computer, personal or financial account information is not authentic.
