Public TV adds world news, entertainment channel

MHz Worldview is a national, independent, non-commercial channel presenting English-language international content including news, documentaries, cultural programs, dramas, music and sports.
International news is airing 3-7 a.m. and 2-6 p.m. weekdays.
“The complement of world news programming is phenomenal,” said Lawrence Pintak, dean of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication and veteran foreign correspondent. “There are newscasts and commentaries from the Arab states, Israel, Germany, Japan and Russia.
 
“Some of the most influential global networks are now represented on Northwest Public Television – from Beijing TV to Deutsche Wella,” he said. “We are very pleased to offer this array of information and perspective.”

‘The Doha Debates’ (Sundays at 8 a.m.)
dissects the vital issues of the Middle East.
‘Detective Montalbano’
(Sundays at 9 p.m.) is an Italian
mystery series featuring a
quirky title character.
  
“The Doha Debates” is one example of world news programming. Airing at 8 a.m. Sundays, it is produced for the British Broadcasting Corporation in the Arab emirate of Qatar. It features opinions and arguments about the major political topics of the Middle East region, chaired by former BBC correspondent and interviewer Tim Sebastian.

“As Americans, we forget that there are many cultures and many perspectives,” said Tom Hungate, NWPTV program manager. With MHz Worldview, viewers can access dramas and sporting events from Europe and Asia, he said.

 
“It’s not just interesting; it’s also entertaining.”

MHz Worldview is available to Richland area viewers on KTNW digital broadcast channel 31.3. Palouse residents can find the programs via digital broadcast channel KWSU 10.1 and digital cable on Time Warner Cable channels 10 and 710. KWSU also is available in Spokane on Comcast channel 18.
