Tied, 1-1, after its scheduled five innings, the game went into extra innings with soccer outscoring volleyball by four runs to one in the seventh inning for the final score.
Although billed as an exhibition between teams, some coaches of the teams got into action, too. Fans in the stands included members of the WSU football team.
Scoring was kept on Bailey-Brayton’s new scoreboard which features a video board. The winners had five runs on 11 hits with four errors. The losers stats in the same respective categories, 2-9-5.
Seasons begin for the teams — both 2009 NCAA postseason participants — later this month. On Aug. 20, WSU Soccer hosts Florida State at 3 p.m. on the Lower Soccer Field. On Aug. 27, WSU Volleyball plays U.C. Irvine at 7 p.m. in Bohler Gym as part of the Nike Cougar Invitational.
