VANCOUVER, Wash. A room full of bats doesn’t sound like something you’d want in your building, but Christine Portfors at Washington State University Vancouver thinks the opposite. The associate professor of biological sciences said bats are a great animal to study, because they act a lot like humans. She said getting down to the neurology of brain processes in bats will open doors to more understanding of human audiological design. She said undergraduate and graduate students are a key part of her research, as they help prepare experiments and analyze sounds collected from bats.
