PULLMAN – University Recreation received multiple honors for its contribution and leadership in the recreation profession at the 2010 National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) annual meeting last week in Anaheim, Calif.
The WSU department received three Creative Excellence Awards, including a first place in the website category for the development of a unique exercise website, www.exercise.wsu.edu.
The team won two awards for excellence in the integrated marketing category for the “iPlay” campaign, and in the comprehensive and facility brochure category for the “iPlay” an Introduction to University Recreation brochure.
The awards were created to recognize the innovation and creativity of NIRSA members and acknowledge their accomplishments in marketing recreational sports, fitness, facilities and programs.

In addition, Kathleen Hatch, executive director, University Recreation, received the 2010 National Service Award from NIRSA. This award recognized Hatch’s outstanding leadership and the significant impact WSU’s University Recreation department has made on the profession in establishing a standard of excellence, innovation and creativity. This is the first time WSU has received this award.
“It is such an honor to have our work not only change the lives of our WSU community but have an impact on our profession. I share this recognition with the full team of talented professional and student staff,” said Hatch.
