Committee launches new website A new Pullman classrooms website has been launched, according to Deborah Carlson, chair of the Provost’s General University Classroom Committee. The site contains information about what’s new in the Pullman campus classrooms, which administrative departments are responsible for what, and how to contact those support areas. Samples of other available information include frequently asked questions, the university committee’s organization and membership, and Pullman classroom location maps.

Meanwhile, Academic Media Services (AMS) is installing videoconferencing/web conferencing equipment in selected classrooms this spring. AMS also is purchasing a mobile cart to deliver on-demand high quality videoconferencing at almost any location on campus.
The Sloan classrooms have not seen major improvements since the building was constructed in 1962. The upgrades will include modern instructional technology, new flooring, ceiling panels and fresh paint.
In FSHN, room T101 has been added to the classroom roster and its instructional equipment is being upgraded. The room is available for course scheduling through the normal departmental scheduling processes.
WSU has more than 200 classrooms on the Pullman campus. Most are general use classrooms coordinated by a university committee; other non-general-use classrooms and labs are managed by individual colleges.
Use of the general university classrooms is not limited to one college or discipline even if that college is the predominant occupant of the building. Scheduling focuses, in part, on matching course sections with like-sized classrooms and equipment requirements.
Other buildings and their number of classrooms recently upgraded include: Todd Hall, 28 classrooms; College Hall, four; Wilson-Short, five; Kimbrough, one; Wegner, two; Bustad, one; and Hulbert, two.
Three large classrooms in Kimbrough, Smith CUE and Communication Addition (CADD) will be equipped with videoconferencing capabilities similar to those in FSHN T101. The system allows for a lecture to be captured and streamed for review at a later time. These rooms also will provide users the ability to have camera shots of both the presenter and the audience.
Similar equipment will be installed in about six other smaller-sized classrooms in Hulbert, College, Smith CUE and Carpenter. The only equipment difference relates to the cameras: these rooms will have instructor-only camera capability.
When future biennia funding becomes available, more classrooms will be equipped.

The Provost’s General University Classrooms (GUC) Committee is the coordinating body for the day-to-day operation of, and long-term planning for, the general use classrooms.
