Renowned chemist lectures on science and religion

Nobel Prize nominee Henry F. Schaefer, an acclaimed researcher and instructor in chemistry/physics at the University of Georgia and emeritus professor of the University of California Berkeley, will speak at WSU and the University of Idaho April 14 and 15.

“The Big Bang, Stephen Hawking and God,” will be presented at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at the UI Administration auditorium. “The Worldviews of Great Scientists,” will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the WSU CUB auditorium.

Schaefer is a computational and theoretical chemist who has presented general interest science and religion lectures at major universities throughout the United States and around the world.

He earned his Ph.D. in chemical physics from Stanford University in 1969. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has received four of the most prestigious awards of the American Chemical Society, as well as the Centenary Medal from the Royal Society of Chemistry.
 
The lectures are co-sponsored by Faculty Commons, the faculty ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, and the Sciphre Institute, whose mission is to promote balanced inquiry in science, philosophy and religion
