Oregon artist to exhibit work at WSU Vancouver gallery

A collection of work from artist Sorcha Meek, titled “Transitions,” will be on display in the Washington State University Vancouver Engineering Life Sciences Building gallery April 18 through June 24.

The exhibit title refers to both micro- and macro-level transitions and will deal with physical, mental and spiritual transitions. Meek’s background is unique, as she has spent much of her life living in Ireland and Italy.

Meek received a bachelor’s degree in visual communication at Chico (Calif.) State University and went on to study painting and drawing at the Art Institute of Florence, Italy. She is co-founder of the Alpine Art Studio, a print studio in Hood River, Ore. Meek’s award-winning art can be found displayed in the Pacific Northwest and abroad.

Additionally, on display May 2 through June 24 in the Fine Art Student Exhibition in the Student Services Building gallery will be traditional works of art using hand-printed methods and various techniques, such as intaglio, lithography, inkjet prints and hybrid forms, which combine digital imaging with more traditional printing methods.

“Not only do they create art, but students enrolled in the digital technology and culture program at WSU Vancouver also learn the historical, cultural and practical impacts of digital media, as well as skills for Web authoring and design, digital imaging and Web research,” said Harrison Higgs, assistant professor for the digital technology and culture program.

WSU Vancouver galleries are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. Parking is available in the blue lot for $1.75 or at parking meters.
