WSU Pharmacy Professor Receives Independent Investigator Award

PULLMAN, Wash. — Tracy L. Skaer, assistant dean and associate professor of pharmacy practice at Washington State University, has received a two-year Independent Investigator Award from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression. She was one of 40 investigators in the United States to be selected in 2001.

The $90,211 award will support the study entitled “Pharmacologic Treatment Patterns Among Children and Adolescents with Depressive Illness: An Assessment of U.S. Office-Based Physician-Patient Encounters, 1988-2002, and Comparison with Clinical Practice Guidelines from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.”

Skaer and David A. Sclar, Boeing Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Administration in WSU’s College of Pharmacy, are among 120 scientists who have been invited to participate in the World Health Organization initiative, “Adherence with Long-Term Therapies: Toward Policies for Action.” The WSU scientists will focus on the design of educational interventions for developing countries, with specific attention to depression, diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
