D.L. Hughley Coming to Dad’s Weekend at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. –Comedian D.L. Hughley, star of the UPN sitcom “The Hughleys,” will bring his evening of stand-up comedy to Washington State University’s Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum Nov. 3 as part of 2001 Dad’s Weekend activities.

Hughley’s performance is set for 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $19.50 in advance and $21 on the day of the show. They can be purchased at the coliseum box office, all G & B Select-a-Seat outlets, online at www.ticketswest.com or by calling 1-800-325-SEAT.

Hughley’s sitcom is inspired by his real-life experiences. The show was nominated for a People’s Choice Award for “Favorite New Television Comedy Series” and for an NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Comedy Series.”

Last year he performed with fellow comedians Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac in the “Kings of Comedy” tour, one of the highest-grossing comedy tours ever.

Hughley worked as a telemarketer before moving to the stage to do stand-up comedy. After doing many gigs at clubs, he was chosen to be the host for “Comic View” on Black Entertainment Television.

Later, he was on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” which he cites as one of his earliest breaks. Hughley has made two HBO specials and numerous appearances on such talk shows and sitcoms as “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Late Night with David Letterman.”

Hughley continues to tour nationally and internationally, performing stand-up comedy — what he calls his true passion.

“One of the most beautiful things in the world I’ve seen or heard is people laughing, even when there seems to be so little reason for them to laugh — that’s a great thing to me,” he said.

Performing with Hughley is special guest David Raibon.
