Gov. Gary Locke Awards Scholarship Certificates at WSU Oct. 4

PULLMAN, Wash. — Gov. Gary Locke will visit Washington State University Thursday, Oct. 4, to award Washington Promise Scholarship certificates to WSU students.

Locke and WSU President V. Lane Rawlins are among the speakers at the 11 a.m. reception at the WSU’s Lewis Alumni Centre. More than 550 freshmen and sophomore students at WSU received the two-year scholarships, which equal about two years of tuition.

The scholarship is awarded to students from low- or middle-income families who rank in the top 15 percent of their graduating classes or score 1200 or better on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

WSU is one of five Washington colleges and universities the governor will visit this week. Statewide nearly 6,600 students were eligible to receive the scholarship this year.
