PULLMAN, Wash. — Addressing challenges integrating diversity and multicultural issues in education and counseling in the Inland Northwest is the focus of the third annual Multicultural Regional Roundtable, set Aug. 3-4 at Washington State University.
It is offered to counselors, educators, teachers and administrators working in colleges, universities, K-12 schools, and other institutions and state agencies working with Chicano/Latino, Native American, Asian American, African American, multi-racial and bi-racial populations.
The roundtable will be held 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. each day in Todd Hall.
“Multicultural Competency: From Theory to Practice” is the theme of the roundtable, sponsored by the Washington Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development in conjunction with a Title II Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant.
It features Patricia Arredondo, a nationally renowned leader/researcher. From Arizona State University’s College of Education/Psychology in Education, she is known for contributions in the developing multicultural competencies, her dedication to Latina/Latino issues, and being a leader in promoting individual and organizational change through a focus on diversity.
Those taking part in the roundtable will learn about establishing connections with individuals and groups engaged in diversity efforts. In addition, participants will engage in dialogue that “addresses key challenges to and explores pragmatic ways of infusing multicultural competency into daily practice,” says Lucila Loera of WSU Career Services.

Registration fees are $50 for faculty/staff and $30 for students when received in envelopes postmarked before July 10. After that date, the fees are $60 and $35 respectively. Fees include all training, workshops and three meals.
