Memorial Gathering Set for WSU Accident Victims

PULLMAN, Wash. — A memorial gathering is planned Thursday, June 14, at Washington State University for three students who died in a car accident June 4 east of Pullman.

Brandon Clements of Wapato, Stacy Morrow of Milton and Ryan Sorensen of Westport were killed in the accident when their car was hit by another vehicle. Four other students in the car were injured.

The 1 p.m. program is set for the plaza atop Holland/New Library along the Glenn Terrell Mall. Jesse Keene, Associated Students of WSU president, will preside.

WSU President V. Lane Rawlins and representatives from each of the students’ colleges will be among the speakers. There also will be a time for others to share memories about the students.

“This week we have felt the deep loss of three of our WSU family,” President Rawlins said. “I know each of us has taken some time to think about these young people and all of our students, and how important they are to us.

“Whether we teach them in a classroom, work with them in campus activities or work with them as student employees, our WSU students are our reason for being here,” he said.

WSU Counseling Center staff members have been helping students and others deal with the tragedy this week, and will continue to be available.

“The memorial event gives the Cougar family a chance to remember these students and the contributions they have made to the university,” Keene said. “They were our friends. In this tragedy, we need a chance to come together.”

Throughout the week, students, faculty and staff have left cards and flowers at the library plaza in the students’ memory.

In case of inclement weather, the memorial gathering will be held in the Compton Union Building Junior Ballroom.
