Washington State University 105th Annual Commencement Scheduled for May 12

WSU News Bureau staff will be at each ceremony to assist news media representatives.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s 105th annual commencement in Pullman on Saturday, May 12, will include three ceremonies:

8 a.m. — Commencement speaker is WSU graduate Scott E. Carson, president of Connexion by Boeing. This is the ceremony for the colleges of Business and Economics and Education.

11:30 a.m. — Commencement speaker is Edward Fritzky, president of Immunex Corp. This is the ceremony for the colleges of Agriculture and Home Economics, Engineering and Architecture, Nursing, Pharmacy, Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.

3 p.m. — Commencement speaker is Larry EchoHawk, a professor at the J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University, and a former Idaho attorney general. This is the ceremony for the College of Liberal Arts.

This will be the first WSU commencement in which V. Lane Rawlins presides. He took office as the university’s eighth president on June 8, 2000, and was inaugurated March 28.

However, this is not Rawlins’ first WSU commencement. He was a WSU faculty member from 1968-81 and a WSU administrator from 1982-86. He then became a higher education official in Alabama and later served as president of the University of Memphis before returning to WSU last summer.

In addition to Rawlins, faculty members, regents and university administrators will join other college leaders, graduates and their families at each ceremony.
