WSU Earns National Safety Council Award of Honor

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University will be among the universities recognized for their safety programs July 18 at the International Conference on Campus Safety in Palo Alto, Calif.

The university will receive the highest award, the Award of Honor, for its entry in the complete Environmental, Health and Safety Program category. Given by the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Division of the National Safety Council, the awards recognize programs for their design and implementation as well as their novel and original efforts while complying with standardized regulations. The awards also aim to give local as well as national recognition for safety efforts.

WSU’s program was submitted by Dwight Hagihara, director of WSU’s Environmental Health and Safety unit. It is the first time the university has entered the competition.

The award sponsor is the professional resource for safety and health professionals at colleges and universities internationally. The division provides information pertinent to the unique safety concerns of a campus environment.
