“Night of Blues” Planned for WSU on March 31

PULLMAN Wash. — Two Pacific Northwest award-winning blues bands are
scheduled to perform at Washington State University’s first “Night of Blues”
festival on March 31.

The Jude Bowerman Band and Junkyard Jane are two blues bands that
entertain audiences during high-energy live performances. They both combine
a blend of original sounds and vocals in their medley of music, critics say.

The three-member Jude Bowerman Band includes Jude Bowerman on guitar
and vocals; Everett James on drums; and Dave “Red Shoes” Smelcer, also on
guitar. The Seattle-based band has two albums: “Can’t Help Myself” and
“Jude Bowerman: Live.” Bowerman won the Best Bluesman award at the 1999
Tacoma Blues Festival. The Washington Blues Society nominated the band
Best New Band last year. The band performed in more than 300 venues last

Junkyard Jane has been described as “a traveling college party of blues
energy.” The sextet consists of Billy Stoops on guitar and vocals, Leanne
Trevalyan on percussion and vocals, Randy Oxford on trombone, Barbra Blue
on bass and Darin Watkins on drums. In 1999, the Washington Blues Society
voted Junkyard Jane Best New Band. Each member has won numerous
individual awards as well.

Entertainment and Coffehouse. The show begins at 8 p.m. in the Compton
