Honors College Director Jane Lawrence Leaves WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University Honors College Director Jane Fiori
Lawrence has accepted a position as vice provost for undergraduate education at the University
of Vermont. Lawrence will leave WSU at the end of the fall semester.
WSU Provost and Academic Vice President Gretchen Bataille says Lawrence will be greatly
missed for her skills and enthusiasm.
“Jane has played a significant leadership role in moving our nationally-known Honors
Program to an Honors College, expanding the enrollment of high-ability students and working on
the conversion of White Hall to Scholars Hall, a permanent home for the Honors College,” she
Lawrence has been at WSU since 1994. During that time, the Honors College has
experienced rapid growth. It is now ranked as one of the top eight honors programs in the U.S.
by Money magazine. Today, there are some 1,300 high-quality students enrolled.
Bataille says an interim director will be appointed in the spring. A permanent director will be
appointed after a national search is completed.
