Cyber security tips: Browse safely

Almost all employees do some business for WSU through the internet via browsers. Internet browsers tend to be a target for cyber attackers. Keep vigilant against cyber attacks by always using the latest browser version. Updated browsers have the latest security patches and are much harder to hack into. Not sure if yours is the latest version? Contact your area technology officer, the Crimson Service Desk, or the IT Security team to confirm.

Here are some other tips to stay safe online:

  • Before submitting sensitive information through a website, make sure your browser is using HTTPS, which is a sign of encryption
  • Only install plug-ins and add-ons that are absolutely needed and approved – and ensure they are the latest version
  • Always log off when done with a website

Per EP 37, information security and privacy awareness education must be provided to all university employees. Log on to your Online Learning Account and search for ‘cyber security’ in the custom course library tab to find the WSU Cyber Security Awareness – Core training.
