The Foley Institute’s Coffee & Politics Series continues with:
Marijuana Reform in WA – a discussion of Initiative 502
The passage of I-502 in Washington would legalize the possession of marijuana for adults age 21 and older, removing state criminal and civil penalties. Marijuana would be grown and sold through state licensed farms and stores, with a 25 percent sales tax added.
Tonia S. Winchester has been a prosecutor for the cities of Seattle and Wenatchee and is currently the outreach director for New Approach WA, a coalition of citizens dedicated to reforming marijuana laws in the state of Washington.
Douglas Hiatt is a criminal defense attorney who defends medical marijuana patients, pro bono. He is the chair and co-founder of Sensible Washington, a non-profit political committee working to end cannabis prohibition for adults.
Both believe that it is time for the nation’s approach to marijuana use to change.
