WSU Vancouver names new chief advancement officer

VANCOUVER — Washington State University Vancouver has named Michael McKelvey, director of development for Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon, its new chief advancement officer.

McKelvey comes to WSU Vancouver with more than 21 years of advancement experience and has worked with a variety of advancement teams that have raised more than $600 million to support higher education. While at UO, he helped raise more than $65 million in commitments for the college.

McKelvey’s primary role as WSU Vancouver’s campus advancement office is to advance the university’s mission and excellence to its external constituents. These activities include community partnerships, fund raising, alumni relations, marketing/public relations and other external activities to promote the university’s mission and its strong partnership with southwest Washington.

WSU Vancouver plans to announce a significant scholarship campaign in the near future to support its role of providing a four-year undergraduate experience beginning fall 2006. The campaign will focus on support for first-generation students and students of diversity.

WSU Vancouver recently graduated more than 700 students from the class of 2005 — 70 percent were women, and more than 70 percent were first-generation graduates. The figures mirror many of the previous graduating classes.
