PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Theatre opens its
adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Nov. 30. The play
will be performed at 8 p.m. through Dec. 2 and Dec. 7-9 at Daggy Hall.
The WSU production takes place in America during the summer of 1969.
“Amidst a sensuous world of peace, love and the dawning of a new age,
Shakespeare’s characters get a fresh comedic lease on life as they explore the
new world,” said director and WSU faculty member Terry Converse. “The
audience will be seduced by moonlight magic, fairy dust and bridal bed
blessings in the intersection of the world of real people and the world of fairies
in the classic Shakespearean tale.”
The play also showcases the fair Helena, who is in love with Demetrius, who
loves Hermia who, in turn, loves Lysander and will do anything to rid herself of
her arranged marriage to Demetrius, the director said.
