PULLMAN, Wash. — World-renowned magician David Copperfield is
scheduled to perform two shows at Washington State University’s Beasley
Performing Arts Coliseum Dec. 14, at 6 and 9 p.m.
Copperfield has had numerous television specials in addition to his worldwide
tours and “Dreams and Nightmares,” a Broadway show. Twice he has been
named “Entertainer of the Year.” Copperfield was knighted by the French
government as the “Chevalier of Arts and Letters,” and was recently given an
honorary doctorate of humane letters from Fordham University.
His magical highlights include making the Statute of Liberty disappear before a
live audience of New Yorkers, levitating across the Grand Canyon and
becoming the first person to “successfully” escape from Alcatraz.
Copperfield says that his greatest work to date is “Project Magic,” a
rehabilitative program established in March 1982 to strengthen dexterity and
motor skills in disabled patients, using sleight-of-hand magic as a method of
therapy. “Project Magic” has been accredited by the American Occupational
Therapy Association and is currently implemented in 1,100 hospitals and in 30
countries worldwide.
