Luke Falk wins national Burlsworth Trophy

Washington State quarterback Luke Falk was named the winner of the Burlsworth Trophy by the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation and Springdale Rotary Club at a banquet on Dec. 4.  The Burlsworth Trophy is given to the top player who began his career as a walk-on athlete.

WSU student’s viral fundraising tweet draws international attention

WSU student Danni Messina was feeling thankful over the Thanksgiving weekend and wanted to support a good cause. Two days later, her goodwill gesture for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital had her on the hook for over $200,000 and by her own admission feeling a bit panicked. Rather than throw in the towel, Messina showed the world how Cougar innovation works.

WSU students win national design, construction competition

The two-phase competition involved the collaboration of students from diverse backgrounds, including architecture and construction management, responding to a request for qualifications, and request for proposals for a student health and wellness facility on a liberal arts college campus in the northwestern region of the United States.

Persistence pays off for Goldwater scholar

Keesha Matz knew there were no guarantees when she put in long hours on top of her considerable academic load to complete the Goldwater application late last year. But using her previous experience and guidance from mentors in WSU’s Distinguished Scholarship Program, Matz was named a Goldwater Scholar in 2017, joining fellow WSU students Amelia Brown and Julianna Brutman on the hallowed list.
