PULLMAN – As world leaders collaborate to fight climate change Nov. 15, WSU graduate student and regent Ericka Christensen will attend at the invitation of Gov. Chris Gregoire.
The Governors’ Global Climate Summit 3 and official launching of the R-20 Regions of Climate Action will be at the University of California, Davis. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger invited the Washington governor to “create an opportunity for student leaders and college representatives from your region to be part of your delegation and participate in this important gathering.”
The third annual summit will mark the launch of the R-20 – a subnational public-private alliance intended to implement concrete actions to solve climate change and build a global green economy. It was first announced by Schwarzenegger last December.
“I am elated to represent the students and the university as part of the Youth Leadership Council and an academic partner of the new R20 NGO,” said Christensen. “Forging these important international relationships will ensure Washington’s continued success and a healthy role at the forefront of pioneering efforts for ecologically sound energy and sustainable practices.”
Christensen, a political science student and teaching assistant, was appointed by Gregoire to the WSU student regent post in June. She is WSU’s 13th student regent and the second graduate student to be appointed to the post.
The WSU Board of Regents is the university’s governing body. Appointed by the governor, the board consists of 10 members, one of whom is a student.
