In the wake of the Enron scandal early this century, Sen. Paul Sarbanes of Maryland led the charge to reform the business world. Sarbanes will speak at WSU 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, in Smith CUE 203, sponsored by the Department of Accounting.
Scandals at Enron, WorldCom, Tyco and other firms ruined the lives of employees and stockholders and caused the world to lose confidence in American business. Sarbanes helped create the federal Sarbanes-Oxley Act to hold companies liable for unethical actions. He will speak about that legislation.
In addition to his free public presentation, Sarbanes will participate in the evening banquet of Beta Alpha Psi, a professional organization for business students.
